Wagon Train Western Legends

9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

WAGON TRAIN “CHOOSE YOUR ADVENTURE”

"TENDERFOOT” ADVENTURE

This will be an all-day ride on the wagon train–you get to choose which day: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.  We will transport you from Kanab to meet up with the Trek at about 9:00 AM and you’ll ride in the wagons with the “Pioneers” and “Wranglers” for that day. You will participate in the all the activities of that day, including the traditional “Circle the Wagons” dinner and evening entertainment. After which you will be transported back to your comfy hotel in Kanab. (No overnight camping available.)

“PIONEER” ADVENTURE

You will have a seat in one of our authentic western wagons for ALL FOUR DAYS of the Trek! Each morning we will break camp at about 9:00 after a hearty cowboy breakfast and then travel an average of 15 miles per day, stopping for breaks, lunch, and hundreds of ‘Kodak moments’. There will be short excursion hikes to some spectacular slot canyons and sites along the way.

We usually “circle the wagons”, making camp at about 4:00 in the afternoon. An advance team will be setting up your tents, cots, and luggage before you arrive. We have a great camp cook who will be preparing a delicious supper. Afterward, you’ll join in the entertainment of cowboy tales and songs, and more! Then you’ll bunk down for a restful night under a beautiful canopy of stars. Meals, water, porta-potties, camp gear, overnight camping, and entertainment included. “PIONEERS” will also receive a free Wagon Train Ride to Kanab Fort movie set ticket during Western Legends, discount tickets to concerts, and will be ‘required’ to ride in our famous “High-Noon Parade” on Saturday.

4-day, 3 nights (plus activities at Western Legends Round-Up)

“WRANGLER” ADVENTURE"

Experienced backcountry horsemen are invited to bring horses, feed, tack and equipment to participate in the 4-day, 3-night remuda ride with approximately 50 head of ‘un-broke’ rodeo stock horses. The herd will be traveling ahead of the wagon train and will camp with the rest of the group. Meals, water truck, camp gear, etc. are included. We will be running a shuttle at the end of each day to the previous campsite to bring up your trailers & equipment. You must provide a Health Certificate for your horses (Coggins Certificate), and certified weed-free hay (available at Cannonville.)

4-days, 3 nights (plus activities at Western Legends Round-Up)

The Amazing Kolb Brothers By Roger Naylor

7:00 PM - at Red Pueblo Museum

Meet Roger Naylor, Travel Writer and Arizona's most sincere ambassador of southwest beauty as he shares his newest book: "The Amazing Kolb Brothers of the Grand Canyon"

This book covers the remarkable life of two of the canyon’s most significant pioneers and legendary photographers. The Kolbs dangled from ropes, clung to sheer cliff walls by their fingertips, climbed virtually inaccessible summits, ran seemingly impassable white-water rapids, braved the elements, and ventured into unknown wilderness—all for the sake of a photo.

Roger will also be signing books after his presentation and will bring along copies of his "Boots & Burgers: An Arizona Handbook for Hungry Hikers" and "Arizona Kicks on Route 66".

Come enjoy a witty and wise presentation at 6 PM (Arizona Time)/7 PM (Utah Time) and be prepared to love Arizona more than when you arrived.

Always Patsy Cline

2:00 PM - 3:30 PM at Red Stone Theater

Having first heard Cline on the "Arthur Godfrey Show" in 1957, Seger became an immediate and avid fan of Cline's and she constantly hounded the local disc jockey to play Cline's records on the radio.

In 1961 when Cline went to Houston for a show, Seger and her buddies arrived about an hour-and-a-half early and, by coincidence, met Cline who was traveling alone. The two women struck up a friendship that was to culminate in Cline spending the night at Seger's house--a friendship that lasted until Cline's untimely death in a plane crash in 1963.

The relationship, which began as fan worship evolved into one of mutual respect. It is the kind of relationship that many fans would like to have with their heroes.

Over a pot of strong coffee, the two women chatted about their common concerns. When Cline finally left for Dallas, her next job, the two women had exchanged addresses and telephone numbers. Seger never expected to hear from Cline again, but soon after she left, Seger received the first of many letters and phone calls from Cline. The pen-pal relationship provides much of the plot of the show.

The play focuses on the fateful evening at Houston's Esquire Ballroom when Seger hears of Cline's death in a plane crash. Seger supplies a narrative while Cline floats in and out of the set singing tunes that made her famous--Anytime, Walkin' After Midnight, She's Got You, Sweet Dreams, and Crazy--to name a few.

The show combines humor, sadness and reality. It offers fans who remember Cline while she was alive a chance to look back, while giving new fans an idea of what seeing her was like and what she meant to her original fans.
