The Incredible Pianists! A Fantastic Show at the Crescent Moon Theater featuring Kortney Stirland
Kortney Stirland started piano lessons at age 8 and later played the oboe and sang. He played with All-State Bands in Salt Lake City and appeared on KSL's "Talent Showcase" several times. He played with Dixie College's Stage Band while still in High School. Through this experience he developed his first love-jazz. At Dixie College he was in the choir, band, performed with the Program Bureau, and sang Messiah in the Mormon Tabernacle.
Kortney got his BA in music education from SUU. But later he decided to become a pharmacist and went to the U of U and graduated in 1981. He worked with his father, who was also a pharmacist, for a year, moved to Panaca, NV for 2 years and then moved to Kanab.
He is the drive behind Symphony of the Canyons, which has been performing since 1984. "I am strongly motivated by the fact that a lot of bigger communities think they have a corner on culture and talent. I want to bring people together and see what we can do, see how high we can go."
